Hinterland Smash Repairs has always done more than accident damage. The workshop restores bodies: rust cut out and panels repaired, older cars straightened, and paint taken back to a finish that suits the car. Some of that work is a classic. Some of it is a colour change on a car the owner is not ready to give up.

Straightening before paint
A colour change on a body that is still out of shape is the wrong order. Panels are beaten and repaired back into line, rust is cut out, and the gaps are checked before the booth is booked. That is panel craft, measured against the car in front of us, not a package sold off a menu.
Colour and clear
The colour is chosen for the car: back to what it was, or a change the owner has decided on. In the booth the colour is laid, then cleared. The clear is what gives the gloss and protects the colour. The finish is checked here before the car goes. A single-panel blend, rather than a full restoration, is on the paint repairs page.
We are a panel and paint workshop. Engine rebuilds, gearboxes and interior trimming are not the job we quote. If the car needs the body and the paint, that is the conversation to have with us. If it needs a mechanic, we will say so.
How to start
Restorations are quoted from the car, not from a menu. Photos help us see whether you are asking for a respray, rust repair, or a longer body rebuild. Bring the car to Lawrence Drive in Nerang if you can, on a weekday between 7:00am and 3:00pm, or start with the restoration quote form.
Paint-only work, including a single panel or a blend, is on the paint repairs page. Accident damage on an older car can still be an insurance repair if you are claiming.

Can you respray a car a different colour?
Yes. Full colour changes and partial resprays are part of the paint work finished in the Nerang spray booth.
Do you restore daily drivers as well as classics?
Yes. Some restorations are show cars. Others are older cars the owner wants straightened, painted and put back on the road. Tell us which result you want when you ask for a quote.
Is the body repaired before it is painted?
Yes. Panels that are out of shape, and rust in the body, are repaired before the colour and clear go on in the booth. A respray over damage that is still there is not the job we quote.
